@DaveHiggins I wondered the same thing! It turns out brandy is really important for a good fruitcake and American recipes don't use alcohol
@Merus That would explain the lack of moistness and flavour.
@Merus I finally understand why the Christmas specials of so many US shows have a gag about eating the fruitcake.
Still don't understand why the US has bad cake though.
Although lack of a good rich fruit cake might explain much.
