Hey, how many people on Mastodon pay more than 800$ a month for a room, not an apartment?
Yikes, closer to 1000?
@Mainebot it's the upper west side I'm probably lucky
Also I should move but
@Mainebot I would imagine this to match Mastodon users from Silicon Valley
@Mainebot $1000 but it’s a room in a house
@Mainebot half of the two bedroom I split is well over that
@Mainebot which is ridiculous, but also under the median for 2 bedroom apartments in this city, so 😥
There's a 1bdm with no livingroom going for 1500 up the street from me. It also has no windows.
@Mainebot cool that's actually illegal, but kind of normal according to my years of Craigslist apartment hunting
@Mainebot I wish the city employed someone to be a fake renter and just read Craigslist and view apartments and get application materials from landlords and fine the living daylights out of all those exploitative scum
@susannah I would be happy if the city did anything even close to addressing the affordability crisis. Start with the airBnBers and the rent-gouging landlords and this insane push to normalize 500 sqft apartments.
@Mainebot I think the Airbnb stuff should start improving after this summer when the new rules go into effect https://www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/british-columbia/article-airbnb-agrees-to-help-vancouver-enforce-new-short-term-rental-rules/
at least, IF they actually enforce and tax properly. we have a great record on that, right?
@Mainebot me, in manhattan
