Widespread network issues in my office today. I try to explain problem to colleagues but they have no idea where their data was stored and never backed it up. In desperation, they call the overwhelmed IT help desk.
@skroo The trouble is, I overhear people without a clue. They don't ask me to help. I try but they assume I'm not qualified. It's kind of annoying. But,hey, my machine is working and my data is fine. I can't help them if they don't want to help themselves.
@Idoubtit Oh man, that's frustrating. It's hard for my co-workers to get my trust too when I help them with network issues or any other computer-related problems. Their instinct is to call the IT desk and at a company with 100k+ employees, it takes decades to get a response. I can't wait until they can let the #milennial of the office help them out.
@Areya Yep. That is exactly it.
@Idoubtit I used to have a sign I would put up on my door. "Do you want it fixed, or do you want me to explain it to you?"
