Visiting @nev’s neighborhood in my forest ecology classes. We’re covering disturbances, including insects. This being Forestry, of course we’re focusing on pests, some that incur minor or cosmetic damage, and a handful that incur major damage. This cutie below is one of the latter.
I’ve been loving the sketches I’ve been doing in my journals. They wouldn’t pass scientific standards, but I enjoy them and the process. Journaling like this suits my learning style.
@Fritillaria2 I love seeing your notebook drawings! That moth looks adorable.
@mcmoots Thank you! I have an odd fascination with notebooks. I always think about Leonardo da Vinci and how his notes are considered art, and that’s how I’ve learned to view them. Clearly no da Vinci, but I take a lot of photos of mine, anything that strikes me as having a particular artistic attraction (including the writing.) Mastodon hasn’t seen very many, actually. 😊
@mcmoots Yeah, this is taking a college course to get my ass into gear, but I’ve found it enormously useful, even with the plants I know on sight (and that’s A LOT). It forced me to look at the close details, to know the plants intimately. I hope I can keep it going. It’s been a sustained interest of mine for nearly 30 years, so I think I’ll keep it going (though at my usual glacial speed rather than the feverish pace of school.)
