I wanted to briefly and cynically point out that today I'm working for less than half of what I made per hour *twenty years ago*.
My gardening and housekeeping rates? I have not had a raise in twenty years.
Alright, enough pouting. Chainsaw-stinky pants on. Coffee poured. Music queued up for the car. Minimum wage, here I come.
@knittingsquirrel The "paid better" part comes later. At least, I keep reminding myself. There are good, well-paying jobs out there.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying my schooling immensely. It is truly the best decision I've made in... maybe ever. It was never a financial decision, nor has any of my work been. I just get discouraged if I think too much about it.
@Fritillaria2 I'm glad the better payment will come at some point!! and it's worth so much, to do the kind of work, you love!!
@Fritillaria2
I like that you also used to clean. I always like knowing I have that to fall back on. Then again I am afraid if how much my body would hurt if I did that work full time at my age.
@compostablespork You too? Self-employed?
My Sunday job is leftover from my housekeeping days, but it's for a shop that makes organic wool bedding. I clean the wool and fabric dust from top to bottom and everywhere. I picked that up while I was still actively cleaning residences.
PS Any kind of full time work is ... ugh. (Don't tell the interviewers I said that.๐ )
@Fritillaria2
No, I worked for a super small business - there were only 4 of us, the owner cleaned too. Basically he wanted us all to be clones of him, so we had to clean his way. I learned a lot from him but he was hard to work with. I did get a couple of private gigs on the side but mostly they were all his clients. I liked it in a lot of ways. People's homes are so different and fascinating.
@Fritillaria2 I'm sorry it is that way for you! you should get paied better for your passion!
for the love of trees! โ๐ฒโ๐ฒ
