I’m rehabilitating the bamboo stands neglected by years of renters. Folks, if you are constantly puzzling your cutting tools into a clump to thin, it’s been far too long!

I found several good looking shoots and gave them space. (I only made one “oops” cut.) Even when terribly neglected, bamboo never takes more than 3 yrs to bounce back. In a few weeks, this clump will fill back in better than before.

Now to set the sprinkler on this clump while I start on the others.

Neglected bamboo, getting some TLC. Photos, first, the crookstem (?) I’m currently working on: finished portion is on the right, unfinished on the left. Next photo, a rare bamboo, “Robert Somethingorother”*, all finished. It’s hard to see the fat shoots growing alongside. All will get a good watering so the foliage will be lush.

*This bamboo has fat stalks that turn golden with random green stripes on the culm rather than the groove. (See photo.)

@sculpin It’s pretty special. 😊

I looked it up: Phyllostachys viridis “Robert Young”. The only drawback to this variety is that the green doesn’t stay when it cures. ☹️

@Fritillaria2 I've just been looking it up. 😀 How aggressive a runner has it been for you?

@sculpin It’s been *very* tame compared to the others.

(PS I actually prefer the runners over the clumpers, myself. Seems counterintuitive, I know.)
