FINALLY making a systematic effort to go through 500+ CD's & rip everything. It's been interesting -- I thought I had 9/10ths of my CD collection ripped, but it's maybe barely 2/3ds. Completing lots of incomplete albums from back when I didn't have a big enough hard drive. I've also culled about 30 clunkers, so far.

I've been at this for a week in my spare time & am now on the J's. Gonna finish it first before I load up my new iPod classic with an after-market SSD. So looking forward to having album shuffle back.

@Devils_Rancher tonight I only made it through J-K. This is slow going, but I now have 5 Robert Earl Keen albums in iTunes instead of 2 so that’s a win.

@DistroJunkie Joe Ely used to just tear that one up live when Grissom was in his band.

@Devils_Rancher
Was that the guy that played guitar on the Lord of the Highway album?

@DistroJunkie I think so? He was in John Mellencamp’s band for several years after Ely. He was in Storyville after ha came back to Austin. Monster player.

@Devils_Rancher
Yep, that's him. Mellencamp stole him from Ely. I loved his sound and Lord of the Highway is my favorite Ely album. Probably because of it.

5 more days of the Comprehensive CD Ripping Project & I find myself firmly mired in the M's. I had maybe half? of my collection ripped? This is crazy.

@Devils_Rancher Make SO MANY copies. I did this once (~1k discs), then a disk failure (and some stupidity on my part) meant no music for our housewarming party. Guests arriving just as I realised that all that work had just gone *click* *click* *click*.

@Devils_Rancher (on reflection: I should probably start again, using FLAC, while I still have a working CD drive in the house..)

@pompomtom I find 320kbps AAC files to be good enough for casual listening, but I’m going to keep the CD’s around anyway. I’ve culled about 50 - mostly redundant stuff, like greatest hits & some burned from MP3- what was I thinking?

The news - I’m solidly into the T’s and hope to wrap it up this week!

@pompomtom Backblaze, Time Machine RAID 1 enclosure, 2 CCC clones, one kept offsite & rotated monthly. I don’t fuck around about backups. Plus, I’m keeping 80% of the CD’s.
