However, we got a saying ("reprendre du poil de la bête" [get more of the beast's fur] meaning getting better after a injury or illness)dating from roman empire medicin, consisting to, when bitten by an animal, putting some of the animal's fur in the wound along with some dog's Saliva.
@CountZero apparently, according to that article, saliva (dog or human) has medicinal properties. although I'm not going to sit around licking myself.
