come on I don't want to have to ban that. could you not?

warnings. that expire after some time. we need a way to count offenses. that'd be great.
@darklingatbest yeah, interpretation can do a lot... oh, well.
@CobaltVelvet I was idly wondering earlier today whether instance owners got metrics on, like, how many blocks someone on their instance has received. So if you see someone getting on a lot of blocklists, you can evaluate whether they need to get banned.
@tobascodagama Yes that would be a great tool, and maybe even the same across instances.
@CobaltVelvet Exactly. There probably need to be metrics answering the question "who/what do my users find problematic" beyond just reports. There are a lot of small aggressions that can fly under the radar, otherwise, by staying just barely inside the letter of the rules.
@CobaltVelvet This is a fantastic idea, someone needs to throw it at someone who can write that and patch it into the software.
@CobaltVelvet (I would, but I don't know anyone who codes Ruby...)
@InspectorCaracal @CobaltVelvet I, um, know Ruby, but don't have any free time. That's... not very helpful, is it.
@CobaltVelvet we could use a local tag for harassing
@CobaltVelvet I don't know any Mastodon systems that do that, but Snoonotes is the system that counts offenses in subreddits https://snoonotes.com/
@CobaltVelvet also, I appreciate you spending time thinking about moderation. Having a team that includes experienced moderators is a strong predictor of the long-term survival of a new online community, on average https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/553b/7315936e49f98b18a37c4937a9170edab096.pdf
@natematias I agree, that's one of the thing that makes and will make this better than Twitter I think
@CobaltVelvet Yikes. Sorry! Trying to be friendly; apparently failed hard
