gnome really hit the file chooser dialog middle age with the one that
- doesn't let you edit the path at all
- runs a recursive search when you type anything instead of selecting an entry
- has basically no right click menu on entries

@CobaltVelvet huh, are those recent changes?
- ctrl+l lets me edit the path (granted, you have to know it)
- search on type is not recursive but just on the current directory (hm, maybe that's not the default behavior and I changed it somehow?)
- I have right click menus on entries

@CobaltVelvet the recursive search thing is indeed me changing a setting in nautilus…
If we're talking solely about the file chooser dialog, let's add the fact that preview images (if any) are just ridiculously small

@Thib - nice, but if i have no obvious way to know in app i consider it a missing feature still
-
- that's my right click menu, but it's more about the list than each entry

@CobaltVelvet oh right, I checked what it contained in nautilus, and that it existed in the file chooser dialog but… yeah, it's the same here… that's pretty bad

that's something i often miss on linux DE, and that windows just constantly did great

the bigger issue is that there is such lack of cooperation on things as basic as a file chooser dialog. i don't want to expose myself to 6 bad implementations of something

@CobaltVelvet I've been mildly happy with Thunar and Xfce for a while now, have you given it a try yet?

@moritzheiber i completely moved, except for file-roller that has shown me that gnome thing

@CobaltVelvet I think the issues with searches in any Linux GUI is that they are simply front ends for the find command which has its own idiosyncrasies...
