I want a cat but I live in a basement flat. There is some outside space but it's mainly concrete and no grass area or whatever. Anyone have experience of a cat in this kind of space? It's big enough I just think I would be dealing with a litter tray or similar and that could get stinky. My mum has a cat that I love, and my upstairs neighbour has a cat even though he has NO outside space. Worth considering?

Definitely worth it, but keep the cat indoors or leash-train it and escort it outside. Cats given free-run of the outdoors face soooo many risk factors.

Any competent shelter can set you up with a cat that's known to be content with indoor-only living, and they'll encourage it, too.

Also, consider either getting two cats or, if you're set on just the one, ask for a cat known to be antisocial with other cats so you won't risk it being lonely for its own kind.
