why is "set background=dark" not a default option in vim? do people still use black-on-white terminal emulators frequently enough?

@devurandom it looks like vim actually tries to guess whether the terminal is using a dark or light background? it's not reliably detectable tho

dark WOULD make more sense as the default assumption if it can't figure out the terminal's specific behaviour tbh, everyone uses dark terminals ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@00dani yeah. it seems to use dark when vim is running in the linux console and bright when running in X-based terminal emulators.
