Happy Thanksgiving Mastodon friends! I spent mine home alone with a migraine unable to sleep. It eased up and I eventually took a 3 hour nap. My mother in law brought me food from Thanksgiving at the farm that I missed. So, all in all not a bad day.
Not mandatory or anything, unless it's a rule on your instance. But polite. A case of being considerate to the folks around you.
Something for the folks new to Mastodon. It's generally considered polite to put politics behind a CW. It's honestly a depression and distressing topic these days.

actually the thing about mastodon that keeps hitting me is that it's a return to the governance model of the internet of the 90s, which is the "local dictator", with a single admin or a small mod team who are the sole owners and operators of a site. and like, oh right, anybody who's only used, say, twitter and facebook and youtube and tumblr and myspace and so forth and so on would have had absolutely no exposure to, because all major social media platforms online for the past ten years or so have been huge corporate monoliths (or wannabe huge corporate monoliths). getting mad at brad on livejournal was a very different thing than getting mad at jack on twitter or david karp on tumblr, because lj was brad's site in a way that was very different from jack being CEO of twitter

Bottom left is some Rust code, specifically my (currently dormant, unfortunately) branch from the nix crate that adds handling for getting the addresses of interfaces.

@zoetropeexplosn Don't get me wrong I love my family, but right now it takes a lot of effort to get out of bed and get basic self-care done. I don't want to drive in traffic and show up tired and cranky and then hang out eating and talking and probably have to stay the night or weekend in my late step brother's bedroom.
My mom messaged me today about coming to Thanksgiving, I'm too broke and honestly I don't really want to go. I told her nicely that I can't afford gas down there, but it's 3.5 hours away and if they want to come visit me between now and Christmas they're welcome to. I am doubtful that I'll see that happen before Christmas.
Hi new Mastodon friends! I struggle with my #mentalhealth issues daily. It's cost me jobs, hurt my relationships. I'm bad with negativity and getting frustrated easily. I have a really low self-image. I try to be a good person and treat everyone with love, but I have a problem with being bitingly hurtful over little things when I'm upset. I'm working on it. I'm trying to be more aware and tracking my emotions daily. If you're struggling, I feel you. Follow me, toot at me, whatever. #NotAlone
I used to run a Wildcat! BBS after they were bought out a few times and now I don't know which company it was, but I got my mom to install a 2nd phone line for my birthday so I could run it. We had Legend of the Red Dragon (LORD) and Exitilus, silly downloads of funny jpegs. It was simpler times.
