Thank you all, patrons!

The more money, the better. It will support Octodon first, the rest will help my Mastodon hosting project and make my life better.

@XOR Always code as if you'll be maintaining it at three in the morning with a hangover.

In other words, don't require a lot of thought or memory beyond what is in the code.

Programming in the small ("hacking") and in the large ("software engineering") are so different that people end up talking past each other. Shortcuts that work for a 1,000 line program may be disastrous for a 10,000 line program, while other techniques that seem like annoying boilerplate for a 10,000 line program might be absolutely essential to manage complexity at 100,000 lines.

There used to be talk about Mastodon DDOSing GNU Social instances a while ago.

This was mainly because Mastodon had a "bug" in it that tried to webfinger an account every time it came up in messages. Now this should only happen the first time.

That being said, being mentioned or retweeted by a popular account can still put a huge load on your server.

Here's a video if the server logs at https://pi.soykaf.com, a !pleroma instance running on raspberry pi 2. In this video i post an attachment, then repost it from this account. The following requests are from other fediverse servers all trying to get the message (for verification) and webfingering the account.

The repost happens at around ~40 seconds in. https://social.heldscal.la/attachment/553952

Fleet Foxes - On Another Ocean (January / June) youtu.be/9MJr4BnO-g4

I'm pretty sure Fleet Foxes imbues all their music with magic. This song leaves me speechless.

Hey! This is my contribution to #introductions ! I come from a Trotskyist tendency, but I'm giving that up. I think I'm more of an open minded Marxist. I'll work with anyone. I have a lot of anarchist comrades and I love them deeply.

I am finishing my PhD in philosophy this year, and I am so ready to be done. I read all of Hegel and I know everything about dialectics now, which is great, but I am ready for the next thing.

...which is becoming an open source programmer. I love #linux !!

Still wanting to write that Risk-as-a-web-service/app but Hasbro owns the license for Risk, which explains why the old website my family used to play on disappeared. Why do licenses like this exist? Why?

"Risk-like strategy game as a web-service/app"

The documentation for this is going to get out of hand

I'll repeat what I just told my mom: there are no bacos, only facos or bacon bits. There is no inbetween

Advice for new Mastodonians on the CW feature Show more

That's the part of the containers way I just can't accept:

github.com/kubernetes/ingress/

1. Your ingress controller is a Google managed nginx image you have no guarantee on.
2. It downloads and run a binary from Github.

No hashs, no signatures; Google, GitHub, tini's owner and anyone pwning them could get a root shell in your setup and MITM everything without anyone noticing for some time.
