Programming in the small ("hacking") and #programming in the large ("software engineering") are so different that people end up talking past each other. Shortcuts that work for a 1,000 line program may be disastrous for a 10,000 line program, while other techniques that seem like annoying boilerplate for a 10,000 line program might be absolutely essential to manage complexity at 100,000 lines.

This was mainly because Mastodon had a "bug" in it that tried to webfinger an account every time it came up in messages. Now this should only happen the first time.
That being said, being mentioned or retweeted by a popular account can still put a huge load on your server.
Here's a video if the server logs at https://pi.soykaf.com, a !pleroma instance running on raspberry pi 2. In this video i post an attachment, then repost it from this account. The following requests are from other fediverse servers all trying to get the message (for verification) and webfingering the account.

@jkb Yeah, that's probably what I'll have to do. I'm not well versed in law at all to know what's legally circumventing the license.
For instance, would excluding the whole meta of territory cards be enough to be considered different? I'll probably draw up my own regions anyways.

Still wanting to write that Risk-as-a-web-service/app but Hasbro owns the license for Risk, which explains why the old website my family used to play on disappeared. Why do licenses like this exist? Why?

@evenorbert One of my favorite ways to learn terminal skills is to build my .bashrc file. Every once in a while I think of a function that would be convenient to have - a convertbase function, a cyclic backup, a script daemonizer... Aliases are very helpful too. It's a great way to learn the details of how shell I/O works and it's something that you can bring with you everywhere to make your life easier.
