@wohali there was some NYT article years back, breaking down how cubicles are harmful for most people. ergonomically, structurally, psychologically -- it's like someone looked at factories, and said "yes, good, but how can we make this even less conducive to how humans work and interact"
there is no "alterative good idea", it's just...a bad idea. it's like extolling the health virtues of low-fat cheetos
