Just spent an hour reading Brain Pickings, thanks to @luka . Some fantastic posts there on race, guilt, emotion, writing, e.e. cummings, Maya Angelou, in addition to Maurice Sendak.

I can't even pick which article to gush about, but let's start here: as a chronic PTSD sufferer who is frequently physically ill, it was amazing to read this summary of Sternberg's _The Balance Within_, which rings very true to my experiences.

"Grown-ups desperately need to feel safe, and then they project onto the kids. But what none of us seem to realize is how smart kids are. They don’t like what we write for them, what we dish up for them, because it’s vapid, so they’ll go for the hard words, they’ll go for the hard concepts, they’ll go for the stuff where they can learn something, not didactic things, but passionate things."

Also Maurice Sendak, also Brain Pickings (orig: NYT)
