I think I hadn't done a self portrait in nearly a decade (maybe more) I went from doing a lot of it when i was younger to really disliking how it became something expected to have online: how one looks like. I like this image of me testing a new lens from last october through so I will put it out here.

But then again, is this even a self-portrait or a portrait at all?

@maloki The thing is, every single client *is* a fork.

Mastodon, the software, is two very different pieces. There's the server side, a fairly generic OStatus/ActivityPub implementation with a custom API on top. Then there's the client side, the Tweetdeckish web client.

There are a pajillion other clients, (albeit mostly mobile, though that's changing), all using the API afaict.

I don't think people understand that the only thing that isn't already well-forked is that API. And...

I’ve not been closely following the discussion about trending hashtags, mostly because I’m not interested in hashtags except as a joke. But I will say that our boy Eugen has proved himself open to listening in the past and has generally worked to prevent abuse, and if you think he’s wrong on this that’s fine but abusing him personally is not going to help your cause. It would be nice to think he’s earned a small store of benefit-of-the-doubt.

if you're wondering yes gitlab is very good, even great, and does most of github's current features and more (export, integrated CI), and now can even push to github. it's heavy but i highly recommend having one or using one. if you set one up maybe share it with people around. (use omnibus)

Hello fediverse! This is the official Mastodon account for morii: an Android and iOS app for @pixelfed. The app isn't anywhere near release stage yet, so this account will pretty much be dev notes and feedback requests.

It seems the trends feature is a bit controversial.

If you are an admin who wants to disable the trending feature on your instance, this is the small change to the source code that does it:

- The file to edit is
app/javascript/mastodon/features/getting_started/index.js
- The change to make is to remove
" {multiColumn && <TrendsContainer />}"
(currently at line 135).
