NYC folks: if you'd like a free ticket to my day long workshop this Friday about, essentially, how to run a great Mastodon instance for your community, I have discount codes!
It's based on my https://runyourown.social guide but it uses the guide as a jumping off point and I get into some of the nitty gritty, including things like "how to stay on top of Mastodon releases and keep your community informed of new features if you don't know anything about programming"
Next week the Concordia University Library has a great line-up of events for #OpenAccessWeek. I'm offering a session on Using and Sharing #OpenAccess Content with #CreativeCommons Licenses. Most of our events are open to everyone (in Montreal): https://library.concordia.ca/research/open-access/open-access-week.php spread the word and join us!
#ForgeFed update 🙂
Repos are #ActivityPub actors. There's now an activity type called Push, and such an activity can published automatically whenever you push new commits into a repo. In Vervis, I implemented this for Git, not yet for Darcs.
What remains for the demo:
- Implement following (WIP, almost done)
- Darcs support (TODO if not too much work)
I hope to get this done very soon ^_^
Btw, happy autumn 🍁
wow, Android is killing termux
I can't even.
Curate your own Fediverse
* Use filters liberally to remove posts that annoys you
* Mute or block other people or bots who get boosted into your timeline if you don't want to see them again
* Try to remember to not click on CW's for stuff that will leave you feeling worse
And you never have to explain why
You can do so for reasons that are entirely "selfish" or "petty"
E.g. "Their jokes were crass so I muted them"
Make the Fediverse a place that's good for you
Very excited to be interviewed for The Plain Text Project: https://t.co/2C6stn2G6a
It's essential reading if you want to hear me go on about document formatting, which, sadly, is one of my passions.
Towards totally free & open computing: System76 ships new laptops without BIOS / UEFI.
Galago Pro & Darter Pro are two new Linux laptops shipping with Coreboot as an alternative to its proprietary counterparts.
System76 is known for their rock solid powerful line of Linux PC's with a support and enthusiasm second to none. From the boot screen to desktop "29% faster" than with BIOS, thanks to dropping unnecessary features.
