For folks who write a lot of #markdown and hate that you can't see it rendered in most plain-text editors....

Try ReText!! I really love it. So simple, but has everything that I need when editing markdown -- live preview (two panels side by side, one where you edit and the other preview) and some basic formatting help.

@gwenn no plain text export or searching on signal, unfortunately (I use it currently for texting).

I tried xmpp and found it a bit difficult. I can take another look though I suppose, if you like it?

It's 2018 and there's no single messaging/chat/instant messaging app that is/has:

* FOSS
* encrypted/security-aware
* plain-text export of all messages for all time
* search across all messages

Utah is beautiful but has some of the most backassward laws I've ever seen

Some observations about Utah:
- it NEVER gets dark here!! sundown is like 10pm
- everyone is unreasonably nice
- there is no one in SLC after 8pm
- the elevation is so sneaky! I gain/lose 800 feet just going to the building where I'm teaching from the hotel.

@foureyedsoul amazing, I will definitely check out all of these things! My taxi driver also told me about some amazing ghost tours in the downtown I want to check out!

@keiyakins yeah, I've heard it's wicked strict too.....
