Taught a new version of a git workshop today and I feel bad about how it went

mh -

@vickysteeves just a step on the process of iteration 💜

mh -

@mood yeah this is something I want to stitch and hang near my station

@vickysteeves Teaching is hard. Best course of action for taking on hard things is to give yourself extra slack.

mh -

@vickysteeves this looks pretty good RE first couple of pages. Sorry things didn't go well.

@vickysteeves teaching intro to Git is a BIG haul. Just a really big one. I just read through the materials and really appreciated all your "what this looks like" examples, which are super important for me. I struggled when I was younger with even reading variables represented properly... but if I see the variable verison AND the demo version, I can sort it out much better

@platypus @vickysteeves Can corroborate. It took a lot for me to understand git, and I came from SVN and CVS. Its'a a hard topic to learn and a hard topic to teach. I applaud you for teaching this.

mh -

@platypus thank you for this 🙏 It came from being asked many times in workshops, "nothing happened, is that ok??" or "there's a lot of stuff on my screen, is that ok??" so I think many share that struggle

@vickysteeves ooph. sending solidarity. on the plus side, in the context of 2020, neither you or your learners will still remember much of how it went in 5 years time

@vickysteeves

May I ask how more exactly it did not "go well"? I teach git as part of a class to Communication students (no tech background whatsoever) and sometimes find myself wondering about the whole thing because of the lack of/confused/confusing feedback...
