pleroma gets a bad rap because shitty people use it, but it's important to remember that shitty people use mastodon too

people also say the main dev (lain) is problematic but what would you know, gargron is problematic too (which is not to say that problematic necessarily means bad, we're all problematic in our own ways)

it's silly that there's so much bad blood between pleroma and mastodon

I'm glad the topic of governance in #mastodev is coming up again. Someone said this has come up for months and I just want to add some history.

The topic of governance first came up in January 2017 when I and a couple others cussed out Gargron over his habit of developing and testing changes on the live mastodon.social instance causing it to regularly break for certain devices. There also didn't used to be version numbers you just had to merge from master which was always in flux

This seems to be a pattern:

- Someone makes a comment claiming they received abuse and/or harassment from someone relatively well known

- Someone else jumps in asking for evidence (which, from their POV, seems fair)

- The victim has to relive a lot of that abuse, but somehow digs up texts, IMs etc...

- The defender: "Start from the beginning. What did you say/do to get this? I want receipts" and so on

On that note, I guess I haven't said it lately: there are a lot of projects putting forward work into ActivityPub implementations right now. I'm very grateful for everyone across all those projects who are working on things. I know it's hard work. Not just programmers for those projects, all contributors.

For 3 years I put in a lot of stress and effort into activitypub, and many times I considered giving up. These days I'm glad I didn't. Thanks for making it worth it.
