what I mostly meant is that Tumblr's discourse around the term is very hostile, and some people are very angrily misinformed about what the term is, and others are angry that some people have mixed histories with the term and don't want to use it

in general I prefer it to alphabet soup but also respect people's negative experiences with the word as well. I probably come off the wrong way

@cyberlesbiab honestly most of the people I've seen who don't like the term use the same arguments that came up in the original use of LGBT: they want to seem "normal" and "fit in." I rarely find people who've had serious adversity due to their queerness who are active in the community who dislike the term

also in general, I find the pan flag a lot more aesthetically pleasing than the bi flag, and it is also more clearly inclusive

red + blue + yellow clearly indicates "any and all genders," whereas the bi's mixing of red and blue really doesn't.

also, the bi flag is really a five-striped flag, where the purple is ⅕ the flag. the pan flag puts the yellow equally among the red and blue

like I love people trying to quash out the exclusionism in the bi community. but, I'm pan.

like, I get the idea of pan = all and bi = those both like me and unlike me, ultimately it just boils down to the same thing. I'd rather go with all sorts of nuanced terms like the aroace community has done, to explain the nuanced differences, while still keeping "pan" as the umbrella term for both these cases

also like, in general, most bi stuff is *still* associated with its original definition. pan is *always* an inclusive term

so fun fact: the origin of the word "bi" was, unequivocally, "attracted to two genders." and the origin of the word "pan" was, unequivocally "attracted to all genders or regardless of gender"

mentioning that pan is, has been, and will be more inclusive than pan is not biphobic. it's just the history of the terms

while I *do* support changing the term to be more inclusive, which ultimately reduces its use as an exclusive term, don't forget its history
