reposting that with the story that goes with it, my #freebsd media box kept mysteriously rebooting, no amount of debugging or tracing seemed to pick up the spurious restarts. It turns out my 2yo "expert" loved the flashing lights as it started up, and found out how to hard reset it. 3 months of wondering wtf was happening until I filmed this.
The autoconf --with / --enable distinction is meaningless and confusing. I nearly always reach for the wrong one. They should just be unified and both accepted

At the Moz meetup I told some folks that I'd written Automake. The reaction was pretty much why I usually don't bring it up. But TBH I'm proud of what we did there and maybe next time I'll have the presence of mind to defend it instead.

I hate when I'm rebasing and forget if I'm editing a revision or fixing up a conflict, and then "git commit" instead of "git rebase --continue", accidentally merging two patches together.

Wondering lately if I should port my #emacs JIT to use gcc-jit. libjit seems a bit unmaintained; but on the other hand I am worried that gcc-jit compile times will be too high.
If I lived in the Culture I'd try to get the local GSV to give me super powers, so I could fly around in a cape or flash colors like a cuttlefish or something. Seems like a missing detail from the books but you know you can just write it in mentally.

For some time now, I and a friend have been working on a messaging application called Potato. It's essentially an open-source, self-hosted version of Slack.
The server part is quite stable and fast, and has been in production for some time.
The web interface is currently quite bad, and I'm really terrible at web design. If anyone wants to help out bringing this project to a point where it can be used by non-technical people, web-design help would be gladly accepted.
It's painful when multiple classes define a method with the name name and argument types, but different return types that must be handled differently.
