So lets be clear here...
The end game for mastodon is Pirate/Troll instances in their own little blocked network.
There is no way this will not happen, and I would actually call this the most accurate success metric.
We will know we have won when we have a healthy ecosystem of trolls... in a separate network... in a box... far away from me.

@tristan I see it that way too, and soon, so will the trolls... therein lies the problem.

Though mastodon is still a fledgeling network, I think we should have a plan for when harassment becomes a problem. Because it will become a problem. Maybe sooner than we expect...
@NthTensor er, I guess I meant public in the wrong sense; mastrodon is public in the sense that it's open source, but each local instance can enforce their own ruleset as needed.
Hopefully this will allow people to create little pockets of groups that are protected by their beliefs, but as a whole, will act as what Twitter functions as
