This is what social scientists have to listen to, regularly, online (cough*reddit*cough) or in multidisciplinary symposia.

Cross-disciplinary perspectives have sometimes led to amazing insights, but hard problems are just hard.

So, engineers, physical scientists, and computer scientists: if you can _actually_ solve our biggest conundrums with the tools of your trade, come to my office and we'll collaborate on some pubs.

Provost making 40-odd faculty senators sit through 45 min of reading numbers about student attrition. Information that could be put on a website. Information that could be in an email.

This is what happens when your faculty let the administrators be part of Senate. Well, it's one of the things. One of the least destructive things.

This is definitely one of the fancier graphs I've done using ggplot2. Made it for a report for a client agency.

I got to use multiple lines, points, error bars, and facets. I learned tricks for rotating, resizing, zooming, etc.

None of that compared to the days of data munging this required, so... ddplyr for the win. Thanks, Hadley Wickham!

I'm feeling accomplished.

Why do I feel guilty for taking a couple hours (literally: 2) off during my weekend to spend with my family, instead of spending it all on my job which, theoretically, requires only 40 hours a week? Why is this how I've felt every weekend for a decade?

Not that he shouldn't have to explain himself to Congress for one corporation's cooperation with police to harm one individual, just that so many others will never have to, when they have harmed so many more, and so much more callously.

Dear ggplot,

I know it's rough, and I yell at you a lot. However, I think we can make this work. The effort we put into this relationship now will pay off in the long run. I will try to be more patient, and you can maybe try to stop making my head hurt so much.

Dear Students,
If you're going to walk three abreast in the hallway, I'm going to need you to speed the hell up. I've been watching some hockey lately, and I can't be held responsible for my actions.

Today I display my best teaching. My students have conceived, designed, carried out, analyzed, and now reported a scientific study involving under-studied attitudes of (and toward) LGBTQ+ individuals (N~330) regarding relationships, views of romantic others, and sexual coercion.

Half the tenure committee will focus instead on class evals from the angriest 10% of students and what I wear.

Me: [explains "inspiring"]
Daughter: Do I inspire you?
Me: Yes! You always inspire me. What inspires you?
Daughter: ... Everything.

Dear ,
I love you, I really do, but it's not a healthy relationship. I mean, it's certainly gotten better over the years, but then I forget that na.rm=FALSE by default and I lose an hour's work and I just wanna break up again.

But I love you, baby. Really.

This discussion on reddit. NGDT is doubling down on scientism here, not actual science. Science does not (cannot, in fact) "discover truth" or "show us reality." is amazing, but this is not why.

People who say things like this are probably the ones who get mad when you point out that and ramped up the security state and killed a shitload of innocent people with drones.

Wynona Earp is really bad. There's nothing remotely original. The dialogue, characters, plot, and visuals are copy-pasted from a dozen superior yet still mediocre mystery dramas.

So of course I'm almost done with season 1. Why do I do this?

Charleston is a lovely city, but I'm not actually _in_ Charleston... or anywhere close, and Charleston weather's posts suddenly became about 20% of the local timeline. I guess I get to try out the function for the first time.

Please don't take offense, Charleston Weather. It's not you, it's me.

I'm going to post pictures of my until I feel better (circa 2023) or run out of photos.

He was the best cat. He had lots of toes--seven on each front paw. After meeting him it was impossible to truly respect the feet of other cats. I'd think, "What are those, tiny joke feet? How many toes do you have on each paw, FOUR? How do you wrap your paw all the way around your human's finger? Are you even a real cat?"
