I love you, I really do, but it's not a healthy relationship. I mean, it's certainly gotten better over the years, but then I forget that na.rm=FALSE by default and I lose an hour's work and I just wanna break up again.

@milvus A HA HA HA... I have found various references to this over the years. Maybe I should just read it already.
@tomstearns #Rstat can certainly be annoying but in this case I think it's a good default: otherwise it would silently discard the NA's and you would be none the wiser.
@koantig Yes, good point. However, I sometimes change defaults so na.rm=TRUE anyway. I'm pretty conscious of missing data. My little post was partly humorous. When na.rm=FALSE zings me, it's a quick fix.
