Confession: I wish I were good at writing fiction. It's just a thing I wish I could do. I'd love to throw myself into the Havens shorts I posted last week. I have some ideas.
But I find myself having ideas about interesting moments or concepts, not actual _stories_ or _characters_. It's easy enough to come up with ideas for some things that characters might do, but not who they are.
@tcql No one was just good at fiction from jump. Like everything else, you have to be shit at it for a long time until you finally aren't, anymore.
@SuzanEraslan yea. I guess at this point I really shouldn't be surprised that nothing ✨ just happens magically ✨ - you gotta work for everything
@tcql You obviously have an innate talent for storytelling and an excellent imagination. The writing part is the work, not the talent.
@SuzanEraslan 💖 you're too kind
@tcql @SuzanEraslan I'll jump in here with another "for sure". You've got a great sense for what people think is interesting. The rest is the same practice that any artist needs to work through, and you're never done with that. Write it, edit as you can, and find cool writer friends to help you focus your basics to where they need to go
@tcql I hear you, I need to unload stories too sometimes. Though, I think mine would end up being non-fiction rather than fiction. Good luck with it.
@tcql DMing can help exercise that muscle, in my experience
@tcql Write them out as "once upon a time" stories. Then fill out the wire frame. You can do it.
