wow. just stumbled upon a youtube video of a guy showing how to play the main riff "Enter Sandman"

but it was a correction, because he posted a video before, where he suggested a tweak to how people usually play it to make the G note ring out better, but people in the comments complained "THAT'S NOT HOW JAMES HETFIELD PLAYS IT"

so he went and watched live metallica vids to figure out "the right way" to play the exact same notes, and retracted his earlier video

his tweaked version sounded good, and seemed *way easier* to play so why the fuck do people care if it's the exact "right" way?... this is bad. people are bad.

do things the easy way when possible. save your fingers from awkward contortions when you don't need them.

@tcql Do so for health reasons if nothing else;- Over/hyperflexing joints repeatedly is a good way to foreshorten your ability to play without pain. :/

@tcql I saw the same thing with Jerry Garcia and the song Ripple. Funny thing is you can hear him play it differently all the time, you don't even have to watch his fingers. People just want to bitch about something.

@tcql my response to something like that is "Well, I'm not James Hetfield and neither are you". Style is what makes musicians who they are, not technical prowess.
