L.L. Zamenhof is the creator of Esperanto. Esperantists pay homage to Zamenhof in many ways, such as celebrating Zamenhof Day on his birthday every year.

One of the most interesting Zamenhof tributes is in the Esperanto exclamation:

"per la barbo de Zamenhof!"

which means

"by Zamenhof's beard!"

Usually used when somebody says something shocking or scandalous

A: "Volapuko estas pli mojosa ol Esperanto"
B: "Per la barbo de Zamenhof! Foriru fiulo!"
