why do I come to resent work that I *have* to do, no matter how much I enjoyed it before when I did the same kind of thing for fun?

I think it's related to my instinctual resentment of applying self-discipline, like discipline should be unnecessary and I should just always have the awareness to pursue the most beneficial activity by default.
