Sometimes on the subway, I catch a glimpse of other people's remaining balance on their transit cards. I'm blown away by those that have more than a hundred dollars loaded at one time. Who are you people? Teach me the secrets of adulthood, plz.

@tats …wait, over a hundred dollars???

What happens when you lose the damn cards?????

@tariqk EXACTLY. I feel that this is a sign of fully-fledged adulthood, like being able to clean the kitchen sink and the toilets without wincing.

@tats I've graduated to dealing with my kids' poop and I still wince at the idea of losing a hundred-dollar travel card.

Oh but wait, I know why. Because Malaysia's Touch'n'Go system is literal crap and dealing with them when things go wrong is absolutely agony and if you lose your card they can't do SHIT about it.

@tariqk LOL. Singapore's system is pretty good, but you're on your own if you lose your card here as well. Think it is probably a lesson about personal responsibility in a paternalistic state. It seems very Asian mom (dad?).

@tats Dad, honestly. And it's personal responsibility for everyone except Uncle and Beloved Son, who get everything handed to them, and second chances.
