@taiz life seems pretty bleak if you think about it, we spend a quarter of it going through school instead of pursuing our passions and then we spend 2/3 of whats left working as glorified slaves (if we’re lucky that is), then we spend the rest of our time rotting in a retirement home alone when we aren’t strong enough to work to make some rich guy richer anymore

@taiz am i still the same me who started this thread? or did i just come into existence? will i disappear in a few moments? is there any point in living at all then, if it’s all for nothing?

now, say the teleporter took those atoms and their placements, and gathered more to duplicate the ingredients. then it recreated TWO me’s. am i in control of both? has another consciousness been created? are we just soulless machines? no different than a super complex program?

@taiz let’s say we build teleporters, and i go through. does it just map out the elements and their placements in my body then recreate them elsewhere? if one carbon atom is no different from another, then what if you replaced say half of the atoms when the teleporter broke me down, then remade me? is that still “me”?

are we even real? have i really lived my whole life or am i just something that inherited past memories this morning and i’ll be gone when i go to sleep? you could argue that i’m simply a brain and i’ve always been a brain, but cells in the body are replaced all the time. i’m composed of entirely different cells than myself years ago, is my body just replacing my consciousness with another every so often?

@taiz even if you did give them “free thought” i can tell you as a programmer that that’s simply an illusion, all it would take is a jailbreak and suddenly people have slaves

making androids that are indistinguishable from people is a bad idea, people would literally just start ordering flawless robot waifus and kill the population in the process

honestly i think these remasters are all bad, and not in the sense that they don’t add too much (which is expected since they’re just a graphical boost) but in the sense it kills the community in the process. mods that were once free on pc are now micro transactions, people don’t mod for fun anymore, they mod to profit. the end result is greedy people making cash grabs and scams trying to sell you something instead of people just expressing themselves with code
