@Mainebot @Stonekettle i’ve been hearing about that but i don’t know the story behind it

also, are you from maine?

@quad i’m too far gone, my face doesn’t even emote anymore unless i force it. all my smiles are forced to please people

wow, octodon’s really getting love today

so what are your weekend plans, fediverse?

oh and if you’re just starting out with no work experience it’s pretty much impossible to get into the field. you’re better off just looking for something onsite, and if you live in a rural area then you’re just kinda screwed

@taiz on top of that everyone expects to get a 10 years of experience developer with a BA in CS. and trust me, if someone actually has the credentials for that, they’re not going to be scourging freelancing boards to make ends meet. it comes down to whichever candidate can lie the best about their experience, and then the client wonders why the site always turns out like trash because the actual skilled developers tend to be modest

freelancing is honestly pretty terrible. the job posts are written by someone at HR who doesn’t know anything about programming and just shoves in tech jargon until it has enough words. for example, why on earth would you need experience from three different javascript MVC frameworks for something you’re building from scratch?

@bvtsang @pnathan i saw a 10 years of react experience requirement a few days ago and had a laugh

and was a little disappointed in the state of things

tired: watching anime in your living room with your roomate

wired: watching it on your phone and keeping it a secret

fired: watching it exclusively from work so not even your ISP knows

hazelnut crème coffee grounds 👌🏿

codecademy is bad, it went from a free resource for learning to code to a dumbed down premium service

goodnight fediverse, i have to be up in 6 hours

@craigmaloney ah i see what you mean, but yeah pretty much the same idea

@craigmaloney @starbreaker not sure if you’d be able to get widespread support for something like that since everyone likes to shit on php regularly then go back and hail javascript
