I sometimes forget to cw food/diet/exercise stuff. I'm trying to get better about remembering, but if this is a painful thing for you, maybe consider muting me.

I love ask metafilter for it's great answers and for the people* who know jack shit about anything who feel qualified to chime in on every other question.

So this was my first time eating fonio. it's not bad, but not great either. it reminds me a bit of crickets actually. I think it would be better in a savory nutbread with lots of spices than in pancakes.

I have to take partial responsibility for this. I KNOW that baking powder requires a little soda to neutralize it if you're using something acidic like buttermilk. But it's a pancake mix! How can you make a pancake mix that fails when you use buttermilk!?!

Oops I meant baking powder. I'm gonna try to salvage the rest of the batch by asking a little baking soda to neutralize it.

blegh! I bought a gluten free pancake mix made with fonio flour and it has so much baking powder that I can't even taste anything else.

I've noticed some commercial bakeries do this as well and ruin their pastries. baking soda tastes terrible. don't use too much. I'd rather flat pancakes than this metal-acrid-almost-salt flavor

Grey clouds shield the morning from the awful sun. A cool breeze is a welcome respite from yesterday's heat.

The clouds will lift later and I cannot be annoyed - on the summer solstice, the sun should have time to shine.
