I have been invited to a "Dank Meme Viewing Party" this weekend at which guests are expected to share their favorite dank memes. I am deeply uncool and don't even know what to do. Please send me yours so I am a Party Success.

Most important Med diet study has been retracted. qz.com/1305718/the-science-beh

I'm surprised about the retraction, given the general terrible state of nutrition research, but not surprised the research doesn't hold up after seeing this study last year on how money, not diet matters qz.com/1045037/the-mediterrane

I'm beginning to think my gramma knew what was up - everything in moderation and always leave a bite on your plate. And eat plenty of chocolate.

Climate change is a problem with the scope and urgency of World War II, and while it will unfold more slowly and less predictably than the war, it demands a response on the same scale.

This is a war worth fighting.

Ok I'm going to try to ride my tricycle to campus and work there tomorrow. Fingers crossed I wake up feeling well!

Wow there is a lot of water from the sky

Oh! I is a perfect day! A deep mist, rain pattering against the windows, cool air snaking through cracked windows.

This time of year is often referred to by locals in despairing tones as the June Gloom.

I adore it.

In the first heat wates of late spring, I begin to dread the harsh light and oppressive heat of the endless days of highish-latitude summer. June Gloom is a relief, a reprieve, a promise that autumn will come again, eventually.

(I hate summer so much.)

Also if you live in Vancouver and want a hardly used vileda bee mop that you can replace the sponge on for ~$7 (at Canadian Tire) or ~$10 (at London Drugs), let me know.

I'm selling it for $1 on Craigslist but it's free to masto-friens!

I'm really glad I didn't ignore them. I'm really glad I can save them $12/year or whatever.

I really really hate that we live in a world where that amount of money matters to so many people.

So I am getting rid of a mop on Craigslist that has a replaceable sponge that costs $7-10. In my listing, I include that information. I got a message asking where you can find the sponges for $7. My first reaction was annoyance - do your own darn research. But my second was that not everyone is as good at internet research as me. So I messaged them back and told them the local stores that have it cheapest. I got a thank you note saying that they'd been paying $10 and were glad to find it cheaper

The EU is about to update #Article13 to force sites to use YouTube-style content filters on all uploads.

This is a terrible idea:

Some MEPS are already fighting back:

but they need as many allies as possible:

Please email/call your MEP as soon as you can (as in today!), tell them that these changes are dangerous to European freedom, business and culture.

When I was more interested in building and managing online communities I had a nascent theory about what I called 'church ladies'. the people who did all the unglamorous behind the scenes work, and traded mostly in inter-group social capital.

I figured you could pretty easily gauge the health of a community just by identifying who those individuals were and what their stress to enthusiasm ratio was.
