.... actually that's no plant embryo and food, that little lump is an insect larva. its momma made a tiny hole in the seed coat and laid an egg and then the baby bug ATE THE BABY PLANT and its food. And now little bug is sleeping safe and sound through the winter in the strong seed coat the tree made for its now-dead baby.
