https://github.com/nodemailer/wildduck looks cool - imap and webmail, scales to TBs of e-mail, can be installed on any old VPS (they say it works on a $10 VPS from digitalocean) "Wild Duck tries to follow Gmail in architectural design. If there's a decision to be made then usually the answer is to do whatever Gmail has done."
