Okay, so can I get a single user instance running on 1GB?
If not, who has the cheapest 2GB cloud server? Looks like, Vultr at $10. Any better?
@ajroach42 yes, just make sure you have a few hundred meg of swap available to the system during install (and maybe keep it around just in case)
@ajroach42 I'm running a single user instance on a $5 digitalocean droplet
@ajroach42 @chr What do you think: Would it be possible for a non-experienced user to set up a #mastodon instance on a digitalocean droplet ?
@stephanmaus @ajroach42 you might be able to! wouldn't recommend taking on any users besides yourself tho, it starts getting harder to manage and there's liability if you screw up, it's nice to be able to experiment with no consequences
@ajroach42 @chr Great! Already found the #HowTo
"Step by step guide on how to run your own #Mastodon instance on #DigitalOcean"
https://hackernoon.com/deploying-mastodon-on-digital-ocean-f54b94c7f5b8
@stephanmaus @chr took me about an hour with the howto guide.
@chr @ajroach42 Great. But are you unexperienced ? I have an ubuntu-netbook. Thats all I know about linux. And this nginx-ssl-thing sounds complicated.
@stephanmaus @chr I'm pretty Linux experienced, but I honestly just followed the instructions in the how-to guide.
@ajroach42 @chr And does it work fine ? Because @rayalez is writing about a lot of error-messages on his server.
@chr @rayalez @stephanmaus with some swap space, it is working well enough for my needs.
