We often tout things like “Mastodon is based on open web protocols” as one of its advantages. I want to elaborate why exactly that’s a good thing.

Notably the ActivityPub appendix warns about these kinds of security vulnerabilities: don't fetch from uri schemes you don't know (be sure your http lib doesn't accept file://) and don't fetch from localhost (though sadly it's hard not to do this one... "localhost-only" is mostly doomed).

But Joey's post also points out that even if you filter out the scheme and localhost yourself, redirects may bite you

People have been showing me @ubuntustudio as a good distro to introduce to creator type people to linux a good while ago, didn't look too much into it. 😅

Now today going through their webpage I actually find it a really great resource for open-source tools for audio, graphics, video and the like. It even has a own adiohandbook which is a big resource of how to do audio stuff.

This is at base interesting for #peertube as it is a nextgen royalty free codec(format to store videos), but it is also sorta important for us Krita devs to keep track of because much like hevc has heif, av1 will have avif, which would be a sort of nextgen jpeg.

Remember, pals, the demand to be NICE is a tool society uses to keep mostly-women from advocating for themselves and others.
