Problem: I use my own device to access work email when I'm working away from the office (generally twice a week). I don't want to receive work emails in the evening, weekends etc. So far I've used K-9Mail with two separate accounts, personal and work.

Proposed solution: since work email is an Exchange server, install Outlook on my Android device, and disable notifications when I'm not at work. I'm not happy to install proprietary software, but is more important in this specific case.

@steko
I made a similar move myself... And it made life much better. I eventually removed Outlook from my phone to resist the temptation to to check for emails out of hours, and while it's still a bit of a process fixing my behavior in that regard on my home computer, my evenings and weekends have been more my own. Hope things go well for you and Outlook pays off (even though it's Outlook πŸ˜›)!

@steko what was wrong with the k9 solution? Couldn't you disable notifications there as well for the work account?

@mrb that was my first attempt, but there are at least two separate settings that are buried down in different menus, and it's so inconvenient that I can't bother doing that 2 or 3 times a day androidforums.com/threads/k9-m

@steko wow, that is way more complicated than it needs to be; this sounds like a good toggle to have. Spoke to the devs yet?

@mrb not yet, but there's a feature request from 2016, still untouched

@steko another issue which would of help is github.com/k9mail/k-9/issues/3 (notification channels) This one seems to have a higher chance of being implemented than 1530, as 3374 is required anyway for new API target.
