Does anyone have experience with setting up a github.io site? Jekyll is driving me nuts and I'm no ruby expert.
@FeyTechnologist Let's have a look at your repository, first.
@starbreaker thank you!
repo: https://github.com/ashanhol/ashanhol.github.io
trying to use this theme: https://github.com/mmistakes/minimal-mistakes
I have a post in /_posts/ but its not displaying on the site (ashanhol.github.io). I have a feeling I'm either navigating to the wrong url (idk how though) or my _config.yml is wrong
@FeyTechnologist Try clearing your cache and refreshing your screen. Also, Github Pages doesn't build immediately after a push; there's some kind of queue involved.
@starbreaker Thank you so much for your help! I think we managed to solve the problem on another thread, the index.md was not updated properly ๐
@FeyTechnologist Shit. Didn't even think to look there. Sorry.
@FeyTechnologist BTW, are you familiar with Python? If so, I can tell you about Pelican next time you want to put together a website.
@starbreaker
I've made websites before (node, flask, Django, .Net, etc) but that isn't really what I wanted to do in this case. I thought github pages would be straightforward enough since it's markdown but it's proving a bigger pain in the butt than expected. I literally just wanted to write markdown and change my theme.
@FeyTechnologist Sorry. Static site generators aren't quite there yet. I had to do a bit of work on Pelican to get the output I wanted; most of the themes are fugly.
@FeyTechnologist Have you looked at netlify.com for hosting your static site? I've used netlify + hugo for 20 sites, and it works swimmingly.
@starbreaker Ah, didn't think to check to see if there's an RSS feed. But I don't think this is the case, I commented out the categories and it still didn't show up. ๐ฐ
