@starbreaker my sister in law is an ex-games company HR person. She left. Then she missed it, had a couple of interviews and could feel her adrenaline pumping up as she entered the building so backed off, big time. Fwiw, she said folk are often their own worst enemies because they love the dev so much she could't kick them out of the building. That is because the companies employ youngsters who don't understand they're burning themselves out. (so I don't think she's entirely blameless, tbh)
Every twelve year old kid who's into computers wants to make games (I was one of them, just not dedicated enough, and thankfully so in retrospect).
The invisible hand of the market kindly ushers the most competent and obsessive ones in, and then closes into a fist to hold them there to exploit their talent, their inexperience, and the unattached nature of their relative youth.
I've been waiting for years for the industry to "mature".
