I just had somebody ask me why I still use Mozilla Firefox instead of Google Chrome.

I told them, "First, I don't trust Google. Second, Firefox has NoScript, and Chrome doesn't. NoScript lets me block third-party JavaScript so that I can use the web without dealing with ads and spyware."

And, naturally, their reaction is, "Muh ad revenues!"

As if their dependence on an intrusive and outdated business model was MY problem.

@starbreaker Anyone who dislikes #Firefox doesn't know the difference between an open web and being spied on.

@starbreaker And then there's the questioner's very problematic use of the word "still." Do they think that Firefox was written in 1736 and hasn't been updated since? Also, is Chrome better solely because it was first released more recently than Firefox was?

But then, I'm just a grumpy clueless Old who "still" eats food instead of Soylent.

Chromium actually has an option in chrome://settings/content to let you maintain a blacklist/whitelist for sites that can run JS at all. So far, Firefox just has a global setting for this. If it's explicitly 3rd party scripts, afaik, umatrix is available for both browsers.

Right now, I only use chromium because Firefox doesn't work so great with my #DragonFlyBSD installs atm.
