Sometimes I add diacritics when posting. Sometimes I don't. It depends on whether I'm tooting from a machine that has a Compose key.

The English International keyboard (available on both Win/MacOs) has support for diacritics without any Compose key (~n => ñ, 'e => é, `a => à). The drawback is that certain characters have to be confirmed by the space bar to be used as stand-alone character. A life saver for a French immigrant in the US like me.

@hypolite Ah, but I bet it costs extra. I'd rather just tell X11 to use my caps lock key as a Compose key. :)

No, it just is a software keyboard layout in the settings. Works with the regular english physical keyboard layout.
It can be called USA International, or USA keyboard, International variant.
