I also think it can act as a vector for conversations about privacy with family and friends, as well as eventually the kids themselves. It avoids normalising performative social media to them when they are most vulnerable.
Aside: it's a bit like the old practice of keeping girls hidden from social life until their "coming out" though, innit?

@cathal @starbreaker As long as it's up to them when/how they "come out" and it's for all kids, I don't feel too bad about it.
