pinephone tech support, β
Anyone else have this issue that their #pinephone isn't charging properly, even over night? When trying to turn it on it buzzes it's buzzer, shows the OS logo (postmarketOS in this case), then runs out of power (?) and crashes

@spacekookie You're going to love the workaround for this.
I have the external charger accessory, because the PinePhone will only charge when the kernel says it's okay to do so.
I am serious. They really designed it that way.

@kescher Thanks but βI hate it

@kescher I think it's because there is no logic in the battery to avoid overcharging which may cause battery fire.

@dad Indeed. But you know, why not place an extra bit of circuitry outside of the battery then, that does this? As done on many phones, anyway. @spacekookie

Yes, you probably need the external charger. Megi has written bit more to his development blog/log, this is for pp not ppp but I assume it is something similar for both: xnux.eu/log/#059

@spacekookie if it's a ppp you probably need to charge in mask rom mode

i too have had problems using "wrong" USB cable or "wrong" USB port on my desktop to connect to various android phones (android 13 pre-release on one, lineage 19 (android 12) on the other)
my guess is something changed with android at some point that has not been communicated (or i just missed it)

@spacekookie Original Pinephone or Pinephone Pro? The Pinephone Pro has some obnoxious charging issues.
