Anyone happen to have access to this paper pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/350070 ? It's neither open access nor on sci-hub so to me might as well not exist 😬
(Silly me would love to read it anyway)

Boosts appreciated!

Found the paper!

Okay actually I was able to get it via my university (that's like... a first 😂).

Sci-Hub itself doesn't host the papers, right? They just use people's credentials to get access to them? Or how would one add access to sci-hub?

Also urgh mastodon won't let me upload a PDF. How else are you supposed to pirate science??

Found the paper!

@spacekookie Some publishers ‘stamp’ PDFs on instutional access so if you upload it somewhere, it could possibly be traced back to you. I don’t know if that has actually happened, so just a note if you aren’t aware.

@fruchti Yea there's a watermark on the first page but it looks extremely easy to remove.

I was gonna run it through GIMP anyway which unfortunately makes the text into a picture but who knows with these things like... you could easily build a PDF that calls home :thaenkin:

@spacekookie
Inkscape might be able to leave the text as-is and you can still easily remove individual blocks

@spacekookie @fruchti LibreOffice draw is pretty good for editing PDFs.

Found the paper!

@spacekookie ah! I so badly want to see the dawn of era where reproducible science becomes the norm. So nobody has the need to pirate them.

@spacekookie what media types an instance allows you to upload is, well instance dependent.

@spacekookie
sci-hub does host the papers! they use credentials to access them initially and then cache them.

re: Found the paper!

@spacekookie apparently the full paper is online through ACS? i was able to download a PDF without any credentials pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.j

@spacekookie This isn't the greatest solution, but I went to the website, and screenshot it for you.
