@IndignantBastard If you scroll down on a federated timeline, it stops updating allowing you to scroll up at will. I use this a lot as I can't keep up and keep working.
@PhotonQyv Fantasy is a better description. It's a reference to the milk man in Pratchett's world, Mr. Soak. Soak was taken when I wanted to use it. So too was Mr. Soak. Due to his eventual reveal, I figured adding lord to the end work. And it works well with my bias that all creativity is an act of chaos.
@PhotonQyv Yup, that's the one I was thinking of. I read those books avidly when I was MUCH younger. Well done with the obscure reference. Even trying to verify by searching for characters in that series came up with blanks. My own is a reference to another often comedic SciFi writer.
@PhotonQyv Your display name made me think of a book I read 30 years ago and have not often thought of. Is it by any chance a reference to a Piers Anthony novel?
@polymerwitch I imagine that most users that are concerned about censorship have a VPN in place for social interactions not done on Gov approved social.
A surprisingly wonderful side effect of tooting v. tweetering is that with 500 characters, I can make an attempt at proper grammar.
@SuzanEraslan That depends on your definition of "decent sounding". If you use a DAC with your phone and have a set of Alpha Dogs by Mr. Speakers attached most of the time, then no. Otherwise, while I haven't used them in the real world, I was impressed by Bose's Bluetooth in ear Quiet Comfort headphones when I tried them in store.
@TimeSnow I think you'll find this article makes your point quite well. And yet, I still hold out hope for the Richard Bransons of the world disrupting businesses by actually taking care of customers.

@Nezchan They have been synonymous for so long for so many, that it is unlikely to change anytime soon. Even Apple differentiated themselves from being a "PC" with their "I'm a PC and I'm a Mac" commercials. We need a new term. The reality is that most people use the "PC" they carry around in their pockets the majority of the time and calling it a phone is like calling your car a mobile stereo.
@laerm If you are using a similar user name, I'd be very careful about that. If you have chosen to go completely anono with a whole new identity and have confidence that it won't be traced back to you at some point... I'd still be very careful about that, as it isn't just your current company that may find out, it could be future companies that see it too, making finding a great one that much harder.
@TimeSnow While cost/convenience do play a role in the overall consideration, I will say that good aftercare is still important in the minds of consumers. Android outsells Apple as a whole, however, the combined majority of smartphone handsets come from the two higher end manufacturers, Apple and Samsung. Apple's products come with years of aftercare in terms of software upgrades despite their refusal to race to the bottom and they are the most profitable of phone makers.
@sapadian Brand loyalty is a function of service received. Provide great service alongside great products and you will get loyal customers. Great products and service are a function of great employees given the free reign to do great work, so you are correct in that you need to treat your employees well. They are not your employees, you are but stewards of their careers and the question is whether or not those careers improved under your guidance. Great leaders understand this instinctively.
In almost every company I have worked for, I have fought to get pay rises for the Customer Service team as they are so critical to operations. In every single company, it was a long, drawn out battle and never a given. When you train and retain the best, you get passionate customers. The best products in the world are easily undermined by a bad customer experience, so if you aren't the best you REALLY can't afford to disregard your customers.
I find it... perhaps apropos that within a month of Virgin America going tits up, United assaults a paying passenger to give space to someone who did not pay for a ticket. Customer Service first, always, what is so hard to understand? Customer Service IS your profit center, never a cost center.
A chicken crossing the road is poultry in motion.
@Ashdroid you need a surfing cat in that barrel.

In my github feature request, I just made the case for a filter that allows me to filter anything Kardashian related from my personal view of the federated timeline. Someone please make this happen!
