@vaillancourtmax That is most definitely true! I haven't had a desire to make bird sounds or facepalms or instant weight measurements in months. This has been a far more fulfilling day.
@SuzanEraslan With that said, I think that this will also allow for people to be the many faces they are to others. You can present your social.family instance to one group, your social.politics or interests or, creative thoughts to another all with your choice of instance.
@SuzanEraslan In the early days of the internet with ebaum's world and rotten.com and the like, there was an innocence (wrong word, perhaps naivety) that was present. Now the web can be a much darker place. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I think you will see a divide in short order of instance mindsets. Federation moderation will become far more key than user moderation as this grows.
@uve Because in a non-federated world (where federations can be chosen) there is no chance for a horrible toot going viral in a way that brings to light someone's idiocy. In fact, the idiocy can have a darwinian like idiocy evolution where only the most idiotic survive.

@truss Trust no one. Use a unique password and watch to see what the instance you're on federates. If you don't like the content, change.
It is strange to search for hashtags and get no responses. I don't think I've been on a social platform where three searches in a row resulted in nothing in at least a decade.

@Siphonay Yes, America's train system blows. I looked into a trip by train and it was more expensive than air, took 5 days to go as far as I can drive in a day. But that's because we support roads not trains. If we shifted that thinking, all the highways in America could be two lane affairs with trains taking up the other 8 lanes that would shift in a hurry. It would take decades and other than outlawing cars, so will any other solution. Actually, they should outlaw single occupancy driving...

@Siphonay You replace cars with railcars, or specifically, trains. All those roads could hold a lot of trains on them that would allow for longer than biking distances. And power them with solar panels on the tarmac not being used. Musk's idea is a start, but kill all teh roadz and give us a retrofuture where trains are what moves... America, France, Britain, name of country here. No train from LA to Las Vegas is an absolute crime considering the cars/cargo making that trek every day.

@Vigdis I've been thinking about this as well. Lots of instances, how long before one or two of them are put up by bad actors with an agenda. Not everyone is savvy enough to have different passwords for different accounts, and this seems like the perfect opportunity for some social engineering. While I think the community will respond quickly as it matures, this is a bit of the wild wild west right now.

@Cocoron Actually, I think there should be a celebrity specific instance where you have to prove you are the celeb you say you are. Then perhaps functionality where you could choose to enable that instance in your home timeline.
